Walter “Buddy” Sebastian, age 94 of Sinking Spring passed away peacefully Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Karen Haddigan in Bethlehem.
Born in Shenandoah on January 1, 1921 he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Daniels) Sebastian.
He was a 1939 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah and was a World War II Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.
On August 26, 1950 in New York he married his wife, the former Christine P. “Teenie” Mohutsky who survives.
Buddy retired at the age of 65 from Clover Farms Dairy, Reading, where he was employed as fleet manager. During his tenure at Clover Farms Dairy he was also employed by Lentz Milling Company, Reading as a mechanic having continued to work there after retirement.
He was a member of St. Herman’s Orthodox Church, Shillington. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local Union No. 429, Reading.
Mr. Sebastian cherished the time spent and the memories made with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 64 years are one son, Walter M. Sebastian and his wife Judy of Cape Cod, MA; two daughters, Karen A. Haddigan and her husband Tom of Bethlehem and Mary C. Noecker and her husband Jim of Saugerties, NY; seven grandchildren, Adam, Scott, Erin, Megan, Daniel, Timothy and Katelyn; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:30 pm from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. An Orthodox Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 pm in Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, 209 S. Lehigh Ave., Frackville. V. Rev. John Andrew Onofrey, Rector of St. Herman’s Orthodox Church, Shillington and V. Rev. James M. Jadick, Rector of Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, Frackville will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
