Kimiko A. “Kim” (Sinagawa) Rakus, 88, a resident of Shenandoah Senior Living Community, passed away peacefully Monday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.
Born in Manila, Philippines, Nov. 12, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Tora Sinagawa.
Kim graduated high school in the Philippines.
She was a retired garment worker, having been employed at the former City Shirt, Mahanoy City.
Kim was a member of the former St. George Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah, and was also a member of Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Rakus, in April 2003.
Surviving are a son, Frank Rakus and his wife, Donna, Pattersonville, Ringtown; two grandchildren, Brian Rakus and Cathy Rakus; a great-grandson, Brendan Rakus; nieces and nephews.
Religious services followed by interment in Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights, will be held at the convenience of the family.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
