Barbara A. (Stass) Sacco

Our Lady of Mt. CarmelBarbara A. (Stass) Sacco, 71, of Mahanoy Plane, formerly of New Brunswick, N.J., passed away peacefully Monday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.

Born in New Brunswick, April 27, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Julia (Wozny) Stass.

Prior to her retirement, she worked in the ophthalmology office of Dr. Gordon in Highland Park, N.J., as a billing and insurance clerk.

On Dec. 27, 1959, in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick, she married John Philip Sacco, who survives.

Barbara was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Shenandoah, and the Glovers Hill Athletic Club Ladies Auxiliary, Shenandoah. She was also a member and former president of the Knights of Columbus New Brunswick, N.J., Council 6678, St. Ladis Laus Ladies Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, is a sister, Diana Torok.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 54 years, John “Phil” Sacco Sr., are a daughter, Christine Van Allen and her husband, Michael, Mahanoy Plane; a son, John Philip “JP” Sacco Jr. and his wife, Debra, Frackville; five grandchildren, Justina, William, Megan, Emma and Sean; nieces and nephews.

Christmas TreePrayer and scripture services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
