Catherine C. “Cuffy” (Cuff) Bright

Catherine BrightCatherine C. “Cuffy” (Cuff) Bright, 91, of 100 S. Main St., Shenandoah High Rise Apartments, Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Thursday morning at her residence with her family by her side.

Born in Shenandoah, Aug. 26, 1923, she was a daughter of the late James and Beatrice (McGuire) Cuff.

She was a graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School.

Catherine was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and prior to that a member of the former Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah.

In early years, Catherine worked at the Annunciation BVM Church rectory and prior to her retirement she worked as the manager for the former J.J. Newberry, Shenandoah, for 25 years.

Catherine was proud of her Irish heritage; she attended local minstrels and shows sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the former St. Mary Magdalene Church, Lost Creek. She was an avid fan of Daniel O’Donnell and never missed listening to the Sunday weekly Orange & Green radio show on WPPA. She also enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband, Al, and playing bingo.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were a brother, James Cuff; a sister, Eileen Metrick; and a great-niece, Olivia Wested.

Surviving are her husband, to whom she was married 39 years, Alfred “Al” Bright; nieces and caregivers, Lynn Cuff, Pottsville, and Kim White, Barnesville; a nephew, James Cuff, Wilmington, Del.; additional nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends.

Prayer and scripture services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Relatives and friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
