Sophie S. (Majewski) Zukowski

Sophie ZukowskiSophie S. (Majewski) Zukowski, 94, formerly of South West Street, Shenandoah, and a resident of Ridgeview Healthcare & Rehab Center, Shenandoah Heights passed away peacefully Friday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born in Shenandoah, Feb. 29, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Helen (Gorski) Majewski.

Sophie was a retired garment worker.

She was a devout member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah, and was a dedicated volunteer during the annual parish bazaar and was also a member of the Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens.

She will be remembered for talented sewing, crocheting and knitting.  Sophie made many afghans for family, friends and church fundraisers.  In addition, she was always willing to make clothing alterations for anyone who requested her services.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Adam Zukowski, in 1986; and six brothers, Joseph, Anthony, John, Walter, Chester and Alousious “Al” Majewski.

Surviving are a brother, Edward Majewski and his wife, Helene, Union, N.J.; her great-niece and caregiver, Donna Kalenkoski and her husband, Francis, Shenandoah; one sister-in-law, Ann Zukowski of New Jersey; nieces, nephews, additional great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and godchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
