Edward “Pop” Lawson, age 77 of Shenandoah passed away peacefully Friday at his residence with family by his side.
Born in Mahanoy City on June 15, 1935, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Rose (Yorski) Lawson.
He was a graduate of Shenandoah Catholic High School.
Prior to his retirement, he was a welder having worked for the Reading Railroad.
Edward was a decorated Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. His decorations and citations include the Parachutist Badge and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the 101st Airborne division assigned to the 24th Infantry Division in Korea.
He was a member of Annunciation BVM Church, the Glover’s Hill Athletic Club and the Knights of Columbus Council 618 all of Shenandoah and the Disabled American Veterans Association.
Ed enjoyed attending Shenandoah Little League and Baseball games where he was lovingly know to all as “Pop”.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were four brothers, Charles, Mike, Benjamin “Red” and Robert Lawson and two sisters, Anna Wasilewski and Marie Hancock.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Rosemary Witkoski; two sons, Charles Lawson and his wife Diana of Shenandoah Heights and Dr. Edward Lawson and his wife Donna of Pipersville; two daughters, Theresa Petritsch and her husband Curtis of Mahanoy City and Linda Hixson and her husband Dwayne of Shenandoah Heights; seven grandchildren, Amanda Burnhauser, Katie Hetten, Dustin, Kassy, Tim and Sara Hixson and Emily Lawson; a great-granddaughter, Eleanor Hixson; two step-grandchildren, Chris and Tony Kowalick; five step-great-grandchildren, Shayla Douthit Hixson, Jordyn, Madison, Kyden and Kolby Kowalick, two honorary children, a son David Zimmerman and a daughter Brenda Caruso; six honorary grandchildren; a brother, Peter Lawson and his wife Betty of Shenandoah; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM in Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment with military honors will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday morning from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. There will be no calling hours Tuesday evening.
