Violet (Karas) Baranowsky, age 89 of 10 Jerry’s Road, Ringtown passed away unexpectedly Friday at her home where she resided for the past 62 years.
Born in Shenandoah on October 10, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Muraczewski) Karas.
She was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.
Violet was a retired garment worker having been employed first in the Ringtown Valley and later in Shenandoah, Centralia, and Frackville. She was a member of the ILGWU.
She was also a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church, Ringtown.
Violet was dedicated to her family; she was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid Joe Paterno and Penn State Football fan and fondly remembered her first game at Beaver Stadium this past fall.
Violet was one of twelve children and was the last surviving member of the Karas family.
Surviving are a son, Robert Baranowsky and his wife Barbara of Zion Grove; three daughters, Kathleen Anderson of Ringtown, Patricia Frey and her husband Douglas of Bethlehem, and Janet Rarick and her husband Donald “Woody” of Ringtown; six grandchildren, Dylan Baranowsky, Shawn Gibbons, Shannon Anderson, Sheri Dudash, Rebecca Frey, and Kimberly Rarick; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Bright and Luke Dudash; and a very large extended family. She will be forever loved, remembered, and missed by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Ringtown. Rev. James M. Torpey will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ringtown.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
