Genevieve (Kurlowicz) Pensmith, age 94, a resident of Providence Place, 2200 First Ave Pottsville and a former resident of Shenandoah passed away Sunday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, Pottsville.
Born in Shenandoah on May 19, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Silkowsky) Kurlowicz. Mrs. Pensmith was educated in the Shenandoah parochial schools.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Shenandoah and when a resident in Glen Burnie, MD she served her parish as a Eucharist Minister.
While residing in Glen Burnie, MD, she worked as a chef in a private club and in the public school system. Earlier, she was a professional waitress in the Poconos and Florida.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband William Pensmith in 1966 and three brothers, Barney Kury, Leonard and Edward Kurlowicz, a sister Stephanie Kurlowicz and a step-sister Helen Hentz.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, surviving are her niece and caregiver Anna Marie, wife of Don E. Segal of Shenandoah; two additional nieces, Marcia Kurlowicz of New York City and Gloria of Pittsburgh; three nephews, Franklin Kury and his wife Beth of Harrisburg, Bernard and Channing both of New York City; great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 am in St. Casimir’s Church, Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Casimir’s Church on Saturday morning from 9:30 am until time of service.
