Eleanor Ann Talerico, 91, of 111 West Coal Street, Shenandoah peacefully entered into the Kingdom of God on Saturday while a guest at Maria Hall Hospice, Danville.
Born in Shenandoah on February 22, 1920 she was a first generation American, the daughter of the late Martin and Victoria (Dowzycz) Rusin.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Talerico who preceded her in death on July 18, 1976.
Eleanor was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Shenandoah. She was Baptized, Confirmed and Married in St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah and also attended St. Casimir Grade School. She graduated from the former J.W. Cooper High School in 1938.
She was a member of the Sodality of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, the Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens and a former Polka Belle.
Mrs. Talerico stayed active in the family shoe repair business. She was an accomplished seamstress who also possessed outstanding culinary skills in cooking both Italian and Polish meals that will be remembered by her family.
Eleanor was a strong woman of faith who volunteered her time at local churches assisting with fundraising projects. She was an avid walker. As an ardent Phillies fan, she enjoyed watching all of their games and cheering them on to victory. She also enjoyed trips with the local senior groups.
She will be sadly missed by family, friends and her pet feline, “Buffy”.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and her husband were four sisters, Victoria Matusik, Helen Simms, Jean Mochan and Sister Mary Annuncia, a Bernardine Sister of the Third Order of St. Francis as well as four brothers, Walter, Andrew, Frank and Martin Rusin.
Surviving are a son, Thomas Talerico and his wife Geraldine of Weston Place, Shenandoah; two daughters, Mary Jo Talerico of Shenandoah and Joan wife of John Hanosek of Lehighton; five grandsons, Jeffrey and Greg Talerico and Joseph, James and John Hanosek; three great grandchildren, Meredith Anne, Madison Elisabeth and John Andrew Hanosek; one sister, Elizabeth Saluta, age 102 who resides in Harrisburg. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews residing in Harrisburg, York, Baltimore, MD, Florida and California.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10:30 am in St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Friends may call Thursday morning at St. Casimir’s Church from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. There will be no viewing or services from the funeral home.
