John A. Bashus, 92, of 200 E. Coal St., Village Apartments, Shenandoah, passed away Tuesday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
Born in Shenandoah, Oct. 8, 1918, he was a son of the late Stanley and Antoinette “Tessie” Kasokas Bashus.
John was an Army veteran.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for Bereschak Beer Distributing Co., Shenandoah, and earlier worked as a truck driver for Reading Anthracite Coal Co.
John was a member of St. George Church, AMVETS Post and the Lith’s Club, all of Shenandoah. He also held memberships in the former Eagle’s and Moose Lodges, both of Shenandoah.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were a brother, Joseph Bashus; a sister, Helen Taggart.
Surviving are a son, Allan J. Bashus and his wife, Pennie, Kannapolis, N.C.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be cele brated at 12:30 p.m. in Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Old St. George Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be no calling hours on Monday evening. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church or charity of one’s choice. Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
