Josephine M. (Wardigo) Heiler, age 83 of 310 W. New York St., Shenandoah passed away peacefully on Friday Morning at Shenandoah Senior Living Community with family at her side.
Born in Shenandoah on October 17, 1926 she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Witek) Wardigo.
Prior to her retirement she had worked in the housekeeping department at Rest Haven, Schuylkill Haven. Earlier she was employed at the former Harris Bakery in Shenandoah.
Josephine was a member of Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah and a charter member of the former AMVETS Post # 7, also of Shenandoah that was named after her late brother, Walter H. Wardigo who was killed in action during the invasion of Pearl Harbor.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband, Thomas; a son, Walter Heiler; two grandsons, John and Daniel Davidson; a brother, Walter H. Wardigo; and two sisters, Helen Adlis and Sophie Belzo.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas Heiler and his wife JoAnn of West Lawn, Joseph Heiler and his wife Bonnie of Shenandoah and Michael Heiler and his wife Mary of Ringtown; two daughters, Mary Davidson of Shenandoah and Josephine “Cookie” wife of John Lipshaw of Frackville; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am in Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Administrator will officiate. Interment will follow in the Annunciation BVM Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. There will be no calling hours on Monday evening. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church or charity of choice.
